NPC’s

The campaign book left it up to the DM to create a backstory. To summarize, this is what I ended up doing with one of the groups. The Greenshield family consisted of Ispin, Ailinda, Phoebe, Derric, and a dog named Felix. The parents perish in the initial raids before the Kingfisher Festival, and the children end up separated.

The other group I ran the beginning as the book had it. Needless to say, I abandoned that idea, and running it with my edits. Enough idle chatter. Here are the NPC’s I’ve introduced and a couple of others I feel are somewhat important.

Ispin Greenshield

A retired knight from Solamnia. He moved to Vogler to lead a peaceful life with his wife and children. He quickly befriended the Knight Becklin, who was stationed there. When he learned of refugees fleeing from a war with reptilian creatures. The trek was a hard one. They knew not of the dangers of the wilds. Greenshield quickly took it upon himself to set up a camp a few miles north of Vogler. There he and other volunteers would safely guide the refugees to Vogler. With the help of a couple of newcomers coming for the Kingfisher Festival, he was able to find out about a impending attack on the camp, and evacuate most of the civilians. As far as he knew, only his son, Derric survived. He gave his life guiding the refugees through a underground cavern. With his son, they were both overcome by the enemy creatures known as Draconians.

Ailinda

A white robe mage and powerful in her own right. As an half elf, she was shunned at an early age. She rose through the ranks of the Order and was a steward for good magic. She met Ispin during a training mission with the Knights of Solamnia. Most Knights had a disdain for the arcane no matter the alignment, but Ispin was captured by her beauty. “You are not tainted by the arcane, but the arcane is tainted by your beaty. For it pales in comparison to what you so naturally have.” His pick up line was the worst she had heard at the time. They married and they rose two children, Derric and Phoebe. The couple shared the same ideals, justice and sacrifice for the greater good. On her last day, she sacrificed herself to save her family and the people taking out an entire battalion of Dragon Army soldiers.

Derric Greenshield

Son of Ispen and Ailinda Greenshield 13 years of age. He was set on learning from his father in the ways of war and from his mother the use of white magic. He isn’t part of any order, arcane or religious, and has much to learn from any seasoned adventurer. He is a quick learner and has a strong sense of fairness and justice.

Phoebe Greenshield

Daughter of Ispen and Ailinda, 7 years old. She has taken more to the arcane than Darrett. As a child, her grey robes are a mixture of her mother’s order and her personality. She is still learning from different masters until she takes her test.

Felix

The family pet dog. He was found on the side of the road one day. He was brutally beaten and on the brink of death. Mom quickly began healing the poor creature. She was able to save his life. All but one wound was healed. One eye had been missing for too long, and she was unable to fully restore it. They covered it with a patch, and the canine has been a loyal friend to the family. He took a liking to Phoebe and they quickly became close. He will protect her with his life.

Darrett Highwater

A squire to Knight Becklin stationed at Vogler. It’s a secret that he is a squire, so please keep it hush hush. At the age of , he has become a decent fighter and tactician. Afterall, he is trained by a seasoned Knight. He hasn’t met many from outside of his small fishing village, and is curious about other places and people.

Knight Becklin Uth Viharin

A veteran of the Knights of Solamnia. She is a member of the Knights of the Crown. She has taken a “retirement” position at Vogler. Her days are easy enough, and she enjoys the fish pies, a local cuisine. She has accepted a squire, which is looked down upon in the past few centuries. Not many people think highly of the Knights. She stays in an old keep and enjoys reading about the past and tales of old.

Raven Uth Vogler

The mayor of Vogler, a small fishing village near Kalaman. She is in her 36 years old, and grew up on the river. She is down to earth, practical and empathetic. Fishing is one of her hobbies that she now doesn’t have much time for. Her loyalty and duty to her people is second to none. Vogler’s best mayor some would say.

Ridomir “Cudgel” Ironsmile

A long time friend of Ispin and leader of the Ironclad Regiment Mercenaries. She traveled with Ispin for many years and saw in each what the other was lacking. She often visits Vogler and the residents see her and her men as one of their own. She has volunteered her men to help with the funeral arrangements for Ispin.

I know. That’s Reinhardt from Overwatch. I just can’t imagine Greenshield any other way. A badass old dude.
